Obituary

Milton Jones lived to be 86 years young. He was born to Walter and Opal Jones of San Augustine, Texas on December 17, 1926, in a tent at a logging camp where his father worked. After high school he joined the Merchant Marines aboard a supply ship between the US, Korea and Japan. On December 14, 1947, he married Norma Jean Tyre from Center, Texas. He had a candy route with Tom's, and then sold cars in Center for many years before moving to Galena Park. He bought T & J Superette grocery store from his cousin Tommy Arnold. He enjoyed working the store and visiting with his customers. After selling that store, he went to work with Tommy at his store on Bandera in North Shore. Later he went to work with Tommy's brother, Jack Arnold, at Galena Park Motors. The last three years of his life he lived in a nursing home in Friendswood where he was well known and loved. He was a talker and loved visiting with the ladies. He enjoyed playing jokes and always had a story to tell. He will be missed by all that knew him. Milton Jones is survived by daughters Milta Whitman and husband Jack, Leezan Grun and husband Eddie, stepdaughter Nancy Haight and husband Bob, and stepson David Jones. He was blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Milton was an only child and loved his cousins, which were more like brothers: Jack Arnold, deceased; Jim Arnold; and Tommy Arnold. Milton was a good and generous man who enjoyed life; he will be missed by many.

Graveside services were held Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Oaklawn Cemetery in Center, Texas.
