Walter James "Bud" Hitt
of Houston, Texas passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013 after a year-long battle with cancer.
He often described a vision he had of a golden chariot with fancy wheels flying him to heaven at the speed of light.
Undoubtedly, Walter boarded that chariot on Sunday morning.
Born in December 19, 1927 in Shelbyville, Texas, Walter was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Addie Hitt, his wife Lorene Lear Hitt, his brother Charles "Slick" Hitt, and sisters Era Jo Birdwell, Bernice Cassell, Verna "Honey" Mott, and Claudia Sims.
Surviving Bud are son Stephen and wife Mary Margaret Hitt, daughter Sherri Diane Stamper, grandchildren Tera and husband Patrick Theriot, Annie Hitt and husband Alex Mesa, and Mitchell Hitt.
Also surviving him is wife Mamie Hitt and three great grandchildren Kameron Mesa, Nathan Mesa, and Garrett Theriot, and sister Norma Lout.
Walter has numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Mr. Hitt proudly served in the United States Army following World War II in Tokyo, Japan, and after the war, he worked and a retired from Armco Steel as a millwright. Bud was a wonderful handyman particularly with his carpentry skills making many pieces of furniture for family and friends.
In addition, he was a member of Irvington Pentecostal Church in Houston. He was raised in and often attended the First United Pentecostal Church of Center.
Walter loved his Lord
and proudly witnessed to anyone whom he met including the staff and fellow patients at Windsong Village Convalescent Home in Pearland, Texas.
The family appreciates the loving care extended to him over the last year by the staff of Windsong Village.
Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home in Center, Texas.
The celebration of Walter's life will be on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Watson & Sons Funeral Home, 1554 State Highway 7 East, Center, Texas 75935, 936-598-4331.
