Virgil Woody "Slick" Matthews, 91, of Center, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2010, at Shelby Regional Medical Center. He was born March 27, 1918 in Mundy, Texas to Adolphus W. Matthews and Josephine Fox Matthews. Mr. Matthews served in the US Army during WWII. He was of the Church of Christ faith. Mr. Matthews owned and operated Matthews Grocery in Lamesa for many years.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center with Rev. Michael Hale officiating.

Pallbearers will be Scott Foster, Eric Pratt, Pat Scarborough, Brady Scarber, Bobby Daw and Buddy Hancock.
