Verlon Dale Freeman , 91, of Center, TX, passed away Friday, May 2, 2025, in Nacogdoches, TX.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center, TX, with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. Paston Quinn Hill will officiate. Interment will follow at Joaquin Cemetery in Joaquin, TX.
Born September 12, 1933, in Joaquin, TX, Verlon is the son of Larnell Lee Freeman and Britt Annie Nunley. He was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University. Retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel, Verlon served in the United States Army Reserves and was also a veteran of the Korean War. He loved teaching and coaching in Joaquin, TX, and DeSoto Parish, LA. He enjoyed watching any and all football, especially his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Vanda Sampson Freeman; sons, Jason Sampson Freeman and wife Amanda and John Paul Freeman; grandchildren, Cullen Freeman, Shelby Freeman, Alexander Freeman, Jace Freeman, Wyatt Freeman, and Garrett Freeman; brother, Charles Freeman and wife Frances; sisters-in-law, Katherine Freeman and Margaret King Freeman.
Preceded in death by parents, Larnell lee Freeman and Britt Annie Nunley; and brothers, Travis Freeman, J.C. Freeman, Dennis Freeman, and Billy Freeman.
Pallbearers will be Cullen Freeman, Mike Lawson, Brent Andres, Jack Cooper, Bo Risinger, and Jason Harvey.
