Velma Sharpton, 100, of the Spanns Chapel Community, passed away Friday, February 27, 2009 at Twin Lakes Care Center in San Augustine. She was born November 24, 1908 in Shelby County to Walter Eaves and Linnie Leona Estes Eaves.
Mrs. Sharpton was a member of Spann's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and was a homemaker in the Spann's Chapel Community. She and her husband, Lonnie, lived on their farm and gardened. They had no children of their own, but they were very influential in the lives of their nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Sunday, March 1 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, March 2 at Old Salem Cemetery with Bro. Carroll Jones officiating.
