Vannie Rodean Metcalf Barnett passed away peacefully July 2, 2026.

Born December 23, 1937, in Huxley, Texas, Rodean is the daughter of Clarence and Lera Metcalf.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Graveside service will follow at Strong Cemetery in Huxley. Bro. Gordon Vaughn will officiate.

Rodean graduated from Strong Community School. After graduation, she moved to Shreveport, Louisiana. While working, she met the love of her life Oliver Wendell Barnett. The couple married and afterwards Wendell was drafted into the Army. While in the Army, the happy couple was blessed with their first child, a baby girl. Rodean was a loving mother who stayed home and enjoyed taking care of her young family. As soon as Wendell’s term was finished, the young couple moved to Longstreet, Louisiana, then to Logansport, where Rodean had her second child, which she loved dearly, a baby boy that completed their family.

Above all, Rodean treasured time spent with her family. Known lovingly as Nanny, she delighted in making memories with her children and grandchildren. Some of their most treasured memories were going to the beach and riding go carts and four wheelers in the pasture. Those simple moments of love, excitement and togetherness became cherished memories that will be held close in their hearts forever.

Rodean was a woman of strong faith, unwavering devotion to her family, and had a heart for visiting with nursing home residents. She was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Though our hearts are heavy with our earthly loss, there is a peace in knowing that she is in her heavenly body in God’s beautiful kingdom.

She is survived by her daughter, LaVaunda and husband Donnie Adams of Huxley; grandchildren, Wade Adams and wife Haley of Willis, Amanda and husband Eric Hassfurther of Richardson, and Chase Barnett and wife Tonya; great grandchildren, Emma Grace Adams, Lilly Jane Adams, Charlotte Hassfurther, Eli Hassfurther, Evie Hassfurther, and Anna Barnett; and sisters-in-law, Peggy Mitchell, Linda Robbins, and Joani and husband, Delvin Johnson.

Preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Wendell Barnett; son, Leland Barnett; parents, Clarence and Lera Metcalf; and brothers, Melvin Metcalf and L.B. Smotherman.
