Tommie LaMerle McCarty Cox , 79, of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2020, in Nacogdoches.

A memorial service will be held later at San Augustine Church of Christ (105 W. Market St., San Augustine, Texas, 75972) with Steven Wiggins officiating. Inurnment will be at East Hamilton Cemetery in Shelby County.

Born December 27, 1940, in Center, Tommie is the daughter of the late Marvin J. McCarty and Ora V. Powers McCarty. She worked as a secretary for Shelby L.P. Gas for many years. Tommie enjoyed cooking and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of San Augustine Church of Christ.

She is survived by her husband, Tommy L. Cox, Sr. of Shelbyville; children, Kevin and Trish Cox of Nacogdoches, Tommy and Christi Cox of Carthage, Sherry and Tony Wingate of Bullard, and Patty Cox of Kilgore; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Mark Allen Cox; and brother, Kenneth McCarty.

Memorial donations can be made to organizations researching cancers of brain, lung, bone, and breast.
