Randy Scates , of Martinsville, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2020, in Martinsville.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, February 8, 2020, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center.  Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 9, 2020, at Watson & Sons Chapel with Bro. Michael Brittain.  Masonic service will follow under the direction of Newburn Masonic Lodge #97.  Interment will be held at White Rock Cemetery in Center.

Randy was born October 26, 1962, to James Scates and Betty Lavada Scates.  He had a love for the outdoors.  If you didn't find him in the log woods, he was most likely in his garden, at the lake, or in a deer stand.  As much as Randy loved these activities, he loved his family even more.  He was always cracking jokes with them or had at least one of his kids with him in the deer stand or in the garden.  He loved his family so much he courageously continued to fight with chronic pain and eventually kidney failure until he was called home to be with the Lord. He was a member of Newburn Masonic Lodge #97.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy Scates of Martinsville; children, Cassidy Scates, Ryan Scates, J.T. Scates, and Michelle Scates; grandchildren, Gavin Burrous and Jailei Davis; sister, Cindy Eubank and husband David of Center; and special bonus brother, David Wilson.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Scates and Betty Lavada Scates; and his son, Jonathan Burrous.

Pallbearers will be David Wilson, Shane Williams, Steven Fults, Brandon Jordan, Adam Jernigan, and O'Brian Brittain.  Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Akridge and Gerald Messer.
