Norma Jean Shamblin, 83, of LaPorte, Texas went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 6, 2011. She was born December 12, 1927 in Center, Texas to Dewey Randolph and Minnie Paralee Tyer. Norma was a long time resident of LaPorte and former Administrator of LaPorte Care Center for 17 years. She also worked at Pine Tree Lodge in Pasadena, and finally ended her working career at Dever Nursing Home in Houston. At the time of her death she was a resident of Friendswood Health Care in Friendswood, Texas.

Norma is preceded in death by both her parents; her brother Maurice Tyer (1978); and her husband Fred Shamblin (2001).

She is survived by her former husband and long time friend Milton Jones; daughters Milta Whitman and husband Jack, Leezan Grun and husband Eddie, all of Friendswood; She is also survived by many grandchildren, including Angie Vegas and husband Luke, and their 3 sons, Jacob, Joshua and Lane of Friendswood; Blake Morgan and wife Jennifer, and their 2 sons Koehl and Connor of League City; Chelsie Calhoun and husband Chris, and their children Zachary and Lyla of Friendswood; Dallas Tye Smith and wife Andrea, and their children Chynna and Ethan of College Station; and Brandon Smith and wife Araka, and their daughter Jodi Ann of LaPorte; Niece Brenda Williams and husband Michael and their children; Nephew Mike Tyer and wife Lisa and their children; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 9:00 am to 10:30 am on Friday, February 11, 2011 at Paul U. Lee La Porte Funeral Home Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.
