Milton H. Cooper, Sr.
, 83, of Tyler, will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. at Oaklawn Memorial Park, 1554 State Highway 7 East, Center, TX.
He was born in rural Harris County, Texas on April 16, 1932. He was preceded in death by his father, Horace W. Cooper, and mother, Allene Cooper.
Milton proudly served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a member of the Sharon Shrine Temple in Tyler, Texas and was a mason for over 50 years.
Upon completion of a degree in education from the University of Houston in 1955, Milton began teaching sixth grade in Houston Independent School District. After sixteen years in the Houston Independent School District, he began his twenty-year career in the Spring Independent School District where he was the first principal of Bammel Middle School. He was a director, principal, and assistant superintendent in Spring ISD. Spring ISD's 18th elementary school was named after Mr. Cooper.
Milton is survived by his wife of over 62 years, Anne Rodgers Cooper, and a legacy of his sister Mary Jo Cooper of Houston, two sons and three granddaughters including son, Milton, Jr. and wife Carla, and granddaughter Katy of Houston; and son, Paul and wife Vickie, and granddaughters, Ashley and Rachel of Tyler.
