Margie Morris
(Townsend) Thibert
Jan 15, 1941 — Feb 13, 2026
Margie Morris (Townsend) Thibert , age 85, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on February 13th, 2026.
Margie wore her self-described "ARMY B.R.A.T." label with pride, having moved from the states to live in Europe throughout her childhood while her father, Master Sergeant Alton L. Morris, served and received two purple hearts in World War II and Korea. Initially married to Clifford Townsend, they shared three daughters who all received Irish names (Kelly, Heather, and Erin) in a nod to their heritage. Margie was a lifelong learner and a lover of language (she spoke three), arts and culture. Having earned her master's degree and LCSW-ACP licensure, Margie advocated for social justice and equality throughout her career, which included 20 years with the State of Texas/TDFPS. Margie was a founder of the first National Organization for Women in Shreveport, Louisiana and was the first woman to take a teaching position in her community within an all-minority school. An early interest in history, anthropology and the environment led her to become an active member of the Archaeological Institute as well as the Texas Archaeological Society. Fine arts and music were an additional passion of Margie's, and some of her life highlights included attending an Easter service at Ft Hood with Elvis Presley and becoming a friend and roommate to musician Janis Joplin at Lamar University. In her retirement years, Margie developed a love for small dog rescue, often fostering all varieties and mixes of Shih Tzus and Lhasa Apsos. Later in life, Margie was able to have a brief but meaningful marriage to Ron Thibert, a musician and proud member of the Chippewa Nation, prior to his passing.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents Alton and Lula Morris, her daughter Kelly, son-in-law Glen, grandson Randy, and husband Ron.
She is survived by her brother Joe, sister-in-law Sue, daughter Heather (Doug) with grandsons Carson and Victor, daughter Erin (Greg) with grandson Evan, granddaughter Brittany and great- grandson Eoin, as well as many other beloved family and friends.
A special thank you on behalf of Margie is extended to her second family at Prairie Estates of Frisco, who gave her quality, wonderful care and close community for nearly a decade.
A private graveside service for family and friends will be held at 11am on February 26, 2026, at Strong Cemetery in Huxley, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local animal shelter or social service provider.
