Funeral services for
Miss Geraldine Smith
, 69, of Tenaha, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home with Bro. Russ Atwood officiating.
Burial will follow at Mt. Herman Cemetery in Shelby County, Texas.
Family visitation will be held Tuesday, March 26, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Don Dial, Jessie Bounds, Waylon Moore, Brian Moore, Eric Endsley and Bobby Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Rushing and William Penn Rushing.
Miss Geraldine Smith was born on January 10, 1944 in Grigsby, Shelby County, Texas to Joe "Monk" Engram Smith and Della Parrish Smith.
Geraldine went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 23, 2013 in Tenaha, Texas, surrounded by loving family and friends.
Geraldine moved from Shelby County, Texas to Houston, Texas in 1948.
Geraldine moved back to Shelby County in Tenaha, Texas in January of 1973, where she was employed by Tenaha ISD until 1983.
She worked in the nursery at First Baptist Church of Tenaha for 38 years.
Children were the love of her life and she loved them all.
Geraldine was never married or blessed with children, but she was caretaker to hundreds of children during her lifetime.
She was a friend to all and loved by everyone.
Miss Smith is preceded in death by her parents and loving step-father, Wilburn Jefferson Luman; brothers, Billy Ray Smith, J.W. (Jake) Smith and Carl J. Smith; sister, Minnie Mae Luman and ten half brothers and sisters.
Miss Smith is survived by her three nieces and three nephews, Sue Smith of Tenaha, Texas, Dale and Bobbie Luman of Jasper, Texas, Gary Smith of Houston, Bobby Smith of Gary, Texas, Helen and Victor Slanina of California and Pattie and Mark Foster of Tatum, Texas; six great nieces and nephews, Jeffrey Anderson, Megan Wilson, William, Christopher and Eric Endsley and Rebecca Kennon; three great great nieces and nephews, Colby and Miley Wilson and Brysun Endsley.
She leaves behind two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Smith of Tenaha, Texas and Rachel Smith of Tatum, Texas; special aunt, Jewel Whitton of Center, Texas; lifelong best friends, Florence Rushing of Deer Park, Texas and Willie Faye Ward of Nacogdoches, Texas.
A heartfelt thank you to HeartsWay Hospice and her home church, First Baptist Church of Tenaha, Texas.
