Graveside services for Mr. George Wayne Jones, 86, of Tatum, will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Harmony Hill Cemetery with Keith Keel officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:30 PM on Wednesday, July 15, at the funeral home.

Mr. Jones passed from this life on July 12, 2026, at his home of 10 years in Tatum. He was born at home on September 29, 1939, in Rusk County to the late George Washington and Dessie (Rucker) Jones. George was reared in the Baptist church and graduated from Gaston High School. He would go on to a 42-year career with SWEPCO as a lineman and service technician. You could say that Mr. Jones had a servant’s heart as indicated by his years of service to Shelby County SWEPCO customers and his time as a volunteer firefighter. That service also wasn’t exclusive to adults. George spent many years involved with little league baseball, starting as an assistant coach all the way to assistant to the district administrator. In his spare time, he was also an avid hunter and fisherman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Jimmy Jones.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years Ruth Jones of Tatum; children Kenneth Jones and wife Elizabeth of Houston, and Cindy Jones of Tatum; brother Billy Jones and wife Linda of Longview; grandchildren Kori Woodard and husband Dakota, C.J. Law, and Jack Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
