Gene Borders, 66, of Center, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at a Shreveport hospital. He was born February 17, 1942 in Port Arthur to A.E. Borders and Susie Dearing Borders. Gene was self-employed as a logging contractor and A Borders Enterprise, LLC. He was a political activist, Activist of the Year in 2006, past president of the Texas Logging Council and on the Board of Directors of the Texas Forestry Association. Gene was a very faithful member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Center and was a trustee/board member.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Thursday, August 21 and all day Friday, August 22 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 23 at First United Pentecostal Church in Center with Rev. Steve Harris, Rev. Edward McRae and Rev. B.H. McCoy officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center.
