Calvin Monroe "Pete" Cates , 82, of Shelbyville, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Nacogdoches Medical Center in Nacogdoches. He was born August 22, 1931 in Jackson, Mississippi to Clifton Cates and Josephine Tanner Cates. Mr. Cates enlisted in the United States Army in 1954 and was honorably discharged on July 10, 1960, having earned the rank of Corporal. He later worked in Dallas as an iron worker for thirty years. He was a member a Masonic Lodge in Mississippi and also a member of Ephesus Baptist Church in Shelbyville.

Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Ephesus Baptist Church in Shelbyville.
