Allie Rea Brown Hughes
, 90, of Shelbyville,
passed away Monday, November 18, 2013 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
She was born April 13, 1923 in Shelby County
to John Allen Sample and Sallie Latham Sample. In 1962, Allie Rea and her
husband, Alvin Brown, moved to Houston, where they resided for 10 years. They
owned and operated several service stations in the Houston area. After
returning to Shelby County, she was employed with Bruce Hardwood Flooring,
where she later retired after several years of service. Ms. Hughes was a member
of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where she was involved in a singing group. She had
a beautiful voice and enjoyed ministering through music to three local nursing
homes each week.
Visitation will be
held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Watson &
Sons Funeral Home in Center.
Funeral
service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Watson &
Sons Chapel with Bro. Gordon Vaughn and Bro. Larry Chandler officiating.
Interment will follow at West Hamilton
Cemetery in Shelbyville.
Pallbearers will
be Craig Estes, Michael Smith, James Gazaway, Danny Gazaway, Danny Joe Brown
and Benjamin Gazaway.
Honorary
pallbearers will be Tom Dean and Gary Lightfoot.
